Question: I was arrested for shoplifting from a K-Mart and I was left with a ticket to show up in court well i guess thats what it is but im wondering what is it that i can get like time or punishment do i get for such a crime so what will happen because i've heard many stories but dont know what might happen to me please i would like to know that consequences well thank you bye.

    Answer:

There are many factors that determine what will happen and what type of punishment you will receive after being convicted of shoplifting. These factors include the value of the property shoplifted, the age of the person convicted (adult or minor), the past criminal record of the person convicted, the decisions of the prosecutor and court, etc. (ARS 13-1805).

For example, if the value of the property was worth more than $2,000 then it is a class 5 felony (up to 1 1/2 yrs in prison); if the property was worth $250-$2,000, then it is a class 6 felony (up to 1 yr in prison); if the property was worth less than $250, then it is a class 1 misdemeanor (up to 6 months in prison or $2,500 fine). (ARS 13-1805). But, other factors can change these punishments.

You should contact a lawyer to help you with your specific case, or ask the court for an appointed attorney.

all of this shoplifters should be charged atleast 6 monts of jail no matter what their ages are. before stealing think who you are stealing from, because that Mini-mart store guy has a family to feed too.

i got caught stealing from walmart it was about 80 dollers, but since it was my first offense and i was under 18 i got a 250$ fine and 16 hours of community service on 4 consequtive saturdays. if your under 18 itll probably just be a fine, and community service, if your over 18 it could be at least anywhere between 500 and 1000 doller fine. just dont do it at all, its so not worth it.
