The 3rd Annual Law, Youth & Citizenship Conference on September 21, 2005 was a complete success! Over 200 education professionals from across the state attended this civic and law-related education conference. A special thank you to Chief Justice Ruth McGregor for serving as our Keynote Speaker for this event.

Community Works: Smart Teens Make Safer Communities
Desert Sands Middle School in Phoenix, Arizona has been named the 2005 Community Works Action Project State Champions.  The competition provides students the opportunity to participate in a service learnig project.  Other schools who participated in the competition were Brimhall Junior High, Super Junioe/Senior High and Westwood High School.  The projects covered various topics including bullying and school beautification.  All students who participated in the competition received a Certificate of Achievement, while each school received a plaque of recognition. Project Citizen
Arizona's 2005 State Project Citizen portfolio winner, Capps Middle School, received a score of "Excellent" at the National Showcase in Seattle, Washington. We extend our congratulations to Capps Middle School for all their hard work and dedication to the Project Citizen Program. We would also like to thank those schools who participated in the Arizona Project Citizen State Showcase.

This year the district level Project Citizen Showcase will be held on Friday, April 14, 2006. The Project Citizen State Competition will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006. Registration forms will be distributed in early 2006. Read more...

America's Legislators Back to School Program
You are encouraged to involve your class and/or your school in the seventh annual America's Legislators Back to School Program. The program will kick off the third week of September and, for the first time, run throughout the school year giving legislators and teachers more flexibility in scheduling classroom visits.  The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) sponsors this program that provides resources such as legislative staff to help coordinate visits of legislators, and lesson plans to help teachers prepare for the legislator's visit.
