Question: What are the requirements to become President?

Answer: The United States Constitution outlines the requirements for President in Article 2. This article of the U.S. Constitution also outlines the many powers of the President and Executive branch of government.

Section 1 of Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution states that a President must:

    • be a natural born citizen of the united States
    • be at least 35 years old
    • have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years

In addition, the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states that a President may not serve more than 2 terms of 4 years each, even if they have only served as President for 2 or more years of one of those terms.

the presidency is just a popularity contest. If you can smile, talk, and make people cheer, then you can be president. It doesn't say anywhere that you have to know what the heck your doing.

obama lead us into a depression........right out of the gate?! so the republicans and pres bush had nothing to do with this. boy are people ignorant. the "depression" started before obama became president. we started heading down the road to ruin during the bush years and obama was hit with the responsibility to try and fix it. its amazing how ignorant/naive people really are. so we wouldn't be in this mess if mccain and palin ran the country? yeah , right!

About the lack of an educational requirement: there are two reasons: 1. At the time, much of America had only a minimal elementary education. 2. Many of America's successful citizens had no formal education as we know it today.
