My name is john and im 17, i live in south carolina with my dad..ok heres the story. I recently dropped out of school because i made some bad choices the earlier part of the semester and my grades are irrecoverable. I know i messed up and i take responsibilty for that. Anyways,im going back to school in August because i want my diploma, i didnt quit because i was lazy i took a brief vacation to gather myself. well i have a job now i work full time at piggly wiggly. Prior to dropping out my father told me if i did that that i would have to pay for my own rent, water bill, light bill, car insurance, gas, everything i needed money for i would have to pay...and hes keeping me grounded while he is MAKING me stay here and pay him, so its like im paying to be punished. i would like to move out of the house, but what i really wanna know is if it is legal for him to make me pay him me not being emancipated, im goin crazy, thanks!

Hi, John. Be happy! If you left and couldn't make rent, you'd be on the street. I agree. Your dad is showing you how hard life is in a loving way. But don't go to school if you're not learning. Teach yourself! What do you want to be/do? The library, the internet, LIFE are a few of the resources available. Or be like me and not know what to do with life and have your parents pay your way. I'm 52, have a B.A. & between jobs. Mom rescues me by paying my bills. You could be on to something. Your dad's another resource. Consult him man to man on issues. He may appreciate it, and see you differently

It is not easy to see how much your father loves you but his actions are clear he does. You can get all the advise you want but no one is better at advising you than your own father. Others have not invested a lifetime in you and they won't understand why your dad may is doing what he is and those of us who are older do. He is not unreasonable but caring enough to help you see how very hard your life will be without a good education and an honorable heart towards others. These are some of the character qualities you need to succeed in life. Honor your dad-it will be well with you.

I did the same thing at the age of 17. I let my grades drop in the first semester of school, dropped out for a year,then went backwith one thing on my mind...Graduate!!!! Yes everyone has made so dum decessions in life i know i have and you are takin responsibility for your actions. there are lawyers out there who will give a free consultation
